Whose Slide Is It Anyway? 10 Year Anniversary Badge
The Year was 2016. The idea was stupid. The creators were stupider. And yet, 10 years later, that stupid idea has been run by those stupid people for an entire decade.
The Lore
The Whose Slide gong has been a thing since our inception at DEF CON 25. The brain child of our late brother Aaron "Bind" Kremin, we thought it'd be funny as shit to have a gong on stage to signal that the trainwreck presenters had their time in the spotlight and it was done. Bind was the first person to ever ring the gong in the hallways of The Flamingo hotel, while him and rand0h both ducked back inside the room, giggling like school girls.
When our stages started getting bigger, we realized the handheld gong didn't have quite the same reach for people to hear it so it was temporarily retired but we always had the even stupider desire for a full size, symphony quality, gong which was an utterly batshit idea. Where would we store it? How would we ship it? So dumb.
So anyway, at DC 32 an entire crew of our gloriously stupid friends surprised rand0h on stage at Whose Slide with a laser engraved, full sized gong. You can watch that video here. To celebrate Bind and 10 years of absolute, unadulterated silliness, you can purchase one of our WSIIAX badges for what we hope is the reasonable price of $75.
The Badge
Features:
- ESP32C3
- 24 RBG LED's
- 3 pre-programmed sound effects w/ accompanying lightshows including (obviously) a GONG.
- A silk screened replication of the artwork on the actual WSIIA gong.
- A badge design mentored into perfection by Mr. BlinkyBling himself, Blenster.
- Custom rear artwork by hacker artist extraordinaire 1DarkOne.
- Possibly a chance to win a badge for DC35. Maybe. Allegedly.
We're only making 100 of these so once they're gone, they're gone.
Where's the money going?
All proceeds in excess of the cost of manufacturing will go to supporting Bind's family and the medical costs that still exist after his passing.
We're not trying to make money here, we're doing this for the same reason we created Whose Slide in the first place. We just wanna make silly shit and laugh with our friends.
When will I get my badge?
You can either pick it up at DEF CON this year or I will happily ship to you. Orders will ship by early August. I DESPERATELY want to be able to ship internationally but I'm just one idiot selling one thing for the first time.
I chose Pick Up @ DEF CON, how will I find you?
Make sure I have an email or a phone number for your order and I will send out a mass update when I figure out where and when. Most likely it will be in the main atrium when you come in the main doors of LVCC at a specified time each day if I don't get you all in one shot.
NOTE FOR INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS
If you are in the UK and want one, I will be in Glasgow the weekend after DEF CON and I'm more than happy to bring them over to arrange shipping from there. If you're in any other country and have someone I can hand this to in Vegas or Glasgow, choose "Pickup" in checkout and shoot me a message and I will absolutely accommodate you.
We are a global village, we need to start acting like it.
